Mission Statement

At St. Joseph Church, our Religious Education program is a community of children, families, catechists, and parish staff who walk together in faith. We strive to offer a safe, caring, and Christ‑centered environment where every child can grow in the knowledge and practice of our Catholic faith. Strengthened by the sacraments and guided by God’s Word, we hope to help our students discover the joy of following Jesus.

Our mission is rooted in the threefold goals of Catholic education described in To Teach as Jesus did:

• Sharing the message of Jesus, helping children grow in a personal relationship with Him as their Savior and friend.

• Building a loving Christian community, encouraged and enlivened by the Holy Spirit.

• Fostering a spirit of service, inviting our students to practice their faith through acts of kindness and care for others.

In harmony with the Diocese of Joliet’s MAKE initiative — a call to deepen discipleship and live the Gospel with purpose and joy — we encourage our families to grow as missionary disciples. Inspired by the diocesan pathway of Conversion, Confession, Communion, and Commission, we accompany our children and families as they learn to know, love, and serve God in their daily lives.

With gratitude and hope, we partner with parents and families as together we help our children grow as joyful disciples of Christ.

Statement Of Catechetical Purpose

Our purpose as the Religious Education Staff of St. Joseph Church in Manteno is to create a protective, loving and committed Catholic-Christian community where each child's faith might become "living, conscious and active through the light of instruction." (National Catechetical Directory)
