Religious Education

Our purpose as the Religious Education Staff of St. Joseph Church in Manteno is to create a protective, loving and committed Catholic-Christian community where each child's faith might become "living, conscious and active through the light of instruction." (National Catechetical Directory)

The St. Joseph Religious Education Program comprises a community of students, catechists with their helpers, parents and clergy, united in genuine love and concern for the purpose of religious formation. The parish staff and its catechists strive to provide a safe and quality Christian environment in which the students can grow in the knowledge and practice of their faith. Nurtured by the sacraments, and inspired by the Word of God as proclaimed in Holy Scripture, we focus our energies on achieving the threefold goals of Catholic education outlined in the bishops' pastoral, TO TEACH AS JESUS DID; namely, to proclaim the message of Jesus (while helping the children to develop a personal relationship with Him as their Savior and friend); to guild a Christian community enlivened by the Holy Spirit; and to explore (and practice) various concrete ways to be of service to the entire Christian community.

Mrs. Simoneks 3rd Grade Class Service Project

The 3rd graders in Mrs. Simonek's class participate in their Class Service Project on December 16.  Each student baked homemade treats at home and brought them to class.  As a class they walked them to the Manteno Fire Department to wish them a Merry Christmas.  The students met with several firefighters, toured the fire house, and even got to climb on the fire truck.

STAR SEARCH: 2nd Annual Christmas Program

On Sunday, December 16, many students from our parish performed the play STAR SEARCH.  After weeks of rehearsals the students did an AMAZING job helping us understand to be a star for Jesus dosen't mean to be the biggest or brightest star but to be kind, caring, and show love for all.

Ms. Sharp's 4th grade Class Service Project

The students in Ms. Sharp's 4th grade class have been brining in money each week during Advent.  As a class they have decided to donate their entire "jug" to the parish Christmas Dinner program.  This program brings all the items needed to make Christmas dinner to famileis in need in our community.
